Navigating Aiken County government's website is now expected to become easier.

The new website unveiled this month, built by the County's IT Director Johnny Walton and his staff, is designed to be more user-friendly, according to County Administrator Clay Killian.

The Aiken Standard reported a year ago that the County intended to put together a completely modernized website by the end of 2014. Although that redesign did not come to fruition, many of the ideas decided on for the site last year are implemented on the new website.

"We are (excited)," Killian said. "It has taken us a little more time than we wanted. With all of the new things going on in the (Aiken County Government Center), it did become less of a priority."

The new website is designed to be compatible with all electronic devices.

Tabs are located at the top of the site - Home, Aiken County, E-Gov links, Services, A to Z Index and Contact - to allow a user to better find what they are looking for without having to scroll up and down the page, or click on several links to get to their intended destination.

Users also should find it easier to search for employment opportunities in Aiken County, in addition to finding who their legislators and County Council members are. If a resident wants to pay their taxes online, the "E-Gov Links" tab takes the user to a list of several options to click on from property taxes, traffic tickets and Register of Mesne Conveyance documents.

Contacting County departments and officials will become easier. Users can select the "directory" drop-down menu at the top of the contact page to find out what department or staff member to call, including where those departments are located.

"We hope it's much more appealing to the eye and we hope it's easier to navigate," Killian said. "We've always had a lot of information on our website and we're glad to put it up there."
