Trust and confidence
I trust and have confidence in our police force. They do a wonderful job and, in return, get insufficient thanks. Now, ostensibly, in order to protect them from inaccurate and unfair accusations, a lot of people want them to wear cameras to prove their innocence before being accused of anything. Wouldn't it make more sense to require instead that all criminals wear body cameras? Make it a law, then if a rogue is caught and cannot document his or her activities, that person at least will be guilty of not wearing their camera.
Minor things
People, we have to stop calling the local police for minor things like a bail of straw missing, a newspaper box stolen or someone that used a marker on a sign. We all know that most of these items cannot be found, so just buy another. We all know the police are spread way too thin to respond to non-emergency calls. Let them get to the calls that are needed, so let's start using our heads and let it go.
Downright lazy
What will it take to keep you whiners out of fast food joints? A 10, 20 or 100 percent hospitality tax? Instead of buying prepared foods, you can buy non-prepared foods in those places called grocery stores, take them home and prepare them in that room called a kitchen. Leftovers can be used for your work lunch the next day. There are taxes we can't avoid, but this is one we all have control of. There is a price to be paid for being downright lazy.
Proud veteran
I am a proud, honorably discharged veteran who took an oath to simply defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. When I took and accepted this honorable commitment, was I looking for discounts? Discounts in any capacity? Ma'am or sir, the answer is not a complicated one - it is a big fat no. That is still how I operate today. A true military man of honor who has the capability to pay should never request or suggest a discount. We should always assume the position and be proper role models.
Recalling officials
In view of the recent actions by the Aiken City Council, I would like to know if South Carolina has a recall provision that permits voters to recall elected officials. If so, would you please publish what the procedure is and what has to be done to initiate it?
Handling tragedies
I want to say how proud I am to be a South Carolinian. The way we have handled the two recent tragedies - the Charleston shooting and the shooting of the individual by a North Charleston police officer. We did not riot in the streets. We did not loot. We came together as a community. We called for actions and we followed the laws of the land. We have set an example for the rest of the nation.
