A two-vehicle crash in Wagener resulted in the death of an Elgin man Tuesday night.
The deceased has been "presumptively" identified as Terry A. Pogue, 39, of Elgin, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.
The wreck happened about 6:50 p.m. on Highway 39 near Holly Pond Road. Pogue was driving a 1997 International Well Drilling truck south on Highway 39 when the driver side front tire blew out, according to investigators. That caused his truck to cross into the northbound lane striking a 2005 Volvo semi-truck just behind the driver's cab.
Both vehicles were destroyed by a fire that resulted from the collision, Carlton said.
The condition of the other driver is unknown at this time.
Dispatch confirmed that a hazmat team and the New Holland Fire Department responded to the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for today in Newberry, and toxicology is pending.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating this crash.
