Southern cooking has come to the Edgefield country.
Sportsman's Southern Cooking has been open for more than two weeks now, and the soft opening has been well-received, according to owner Gary Gibson.
Gibson also is the owner of the Gary's Hamburgers chain in the area.
Regarding Sportsman's Southern Cooking, Gibson said, "We have upgraded the facility, and even though we have a few of the same menu items, it is not another Gary's Hamburgers restaurant.
"We do promise the same attention to detail and dedication to top-quality food, fresh ingredients and excellent customer service that we have delivered for over 30 years," said Gibson.
Gibson said the new restaurant has separate lunch and dinner menus.
From 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can order items such as hamburgers, chicken strips, hash and rice and barbecue plates.
At night, items like fried chicken, fried pork loin and daily specials such as hamburger steak can be ordered.
Gibson said in the future, ribs and barbecue chicken will be added as specials.
Vegetables offered include green beans, black-eyed peas and mashed potatoes, according to Gibson.
On weekends, the dinner menu is offered all day.
According to Gibson, the restaurant sees more traffic during the weekends because of its location, which is near Lake Thurmond.
"It has been exactly what I wanted it to be," said Gibson.
Sportsman's Southern Cooking is located at 2006 Martintown Road in Clarks Hill, next to the historic Sportsman's Corner.
The restaurant is 7 miles north of Exit 1 on I-20 in North Augusta.
Sportsman's is open from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, and can be reached at 803-442-5954.
