The 41st annual Hopelands Gardens summer concert series will continue Monday with a performance by the 246th Army Band.
The 246th Army Band will perform at 7 p.m. on the Roland H. Windham Performing Arts Stage in Hopelands Gardens, and the concert will run one hour.
Monday's performance is presented by the City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department and is sponsored by DayBreak Adult Care Service.
The soldiers of the 246th Army Band have performed since their inception in 1939 as part of the 178th Field Artillery, according to a press release. The band has played on numerous occasions including at the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond's funeral and at South Carolina gubernatorial inaugurations.
In addition to these performances, the 246th Army Band does have a regular concert schedule, playing at military ceremonies, patriotic holidays and community events.
Alcohol and wine are prohibited on the grounds of Hopelands Gardens, and pets must be kept on a leash at all times. Those in attendance can bring a lawn chair or blanket, and picnic dinners are permitted on the property.
Public parking will be available at the Green Boundary Club, 780 Whiskey Road, across from Hopelands Gardens. Handicap parking also is available at the Hopelands Gardens parking lot, 135 Dupree Place, and at The Rye Patch, 100 Berrie Road.
