CHARLESTON -- Cadets at South Carolina's military college are going to be paying $300 more a semester under a tuition increase approved by the school.

WCSC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/KGVe5U ) that The Citadel's Board of Visitors approved the proposal on Friday.

Cadets from South Carolina will pay about $300 more a year, for a total of about $10,500. Cadets from out of state would pay about $1,700 more a year, or $28,800.

Tuition per credit hour for graduate students is also going up.

School officials say the college has tightened its belt in recent years and needs the money to maintain its programs and make facility improvements.
