The Aiken City Planning Department is looking for informal comments regarding a plan for roads on the north side.
The department has posted the Northside Transportation Study on the city website for residents to review and before a formal public hearing, it would like to hear any suggestions or concerns.
This plan took about two years for CDM Smith to complete. The purpose behind the plan is to prepare for potential area growth through 2035 by assuring that the safety and operational needs are met.
Roadway suggestions and additional network links are suggested in the plan.
The areas that the study focuses on include the east-west and north-south connectivity between Edgefield Highway, Columbia Highway, Rutland Drive and I-20.
Planning Director Ed Evans said it's part of the comprehensive plan.
"It will be setting the framework for road improvements and new roads in the area north of the city," Evans said. "It looks at what the road infrastructure should be in the future."
Comments will be accepted until Aug. 31 and will be reviewed by the Planning Commission which will decided if the draft needs any changes. That will occur tentatively on Sept. 11 at its work session.
Comments can be emailed to planning@cityofaikensc.gov, faxed to 803-642-7727 or mailed to the City of Aiken Planning Department at P.O. Box 1177 Aiken, SC, 29802. They can also be dropped off at the department's office upstairs in the Municipal Building located at 214 Park Ave. S.W.
