South Aiken gets new Director of Bands
South Aiken High School Band would like to welcome Neil Nelson as the new Director of Bands. He guides all aspects of the band program including marching and concert ensembles and teaches additional courses in guitar and music appreciation. As a clarinetist, he has performed with numerous university and community ensembles as a freelance musician. He is currently a performing clarinetist with the Palmetto Concert Band, a nationally recognized community band of professional and semi-professional musicians in the Columbia area. We are excited about the coming band season, and we encourage everyone to welcome Mr. Nelson to the South Aiken High family.
SRS intern returns for a second semester
Keynan Jackson is a 21-year-old senior at North Alabama University and Alabaster, Ala. native. He studies business and plays for the school's basketball team.
Although Jackson isn't a South Carolina native, he is no stranger to the Savannah River Site - this is his second summer interning with Savannah River Remediation.
Last summer, Jackson worked in the Procurement Department. With the direction of his mentor, Angela Jones, and his manager, Ellen Bigelow, he approved invoices, learned how to complete change notices and obtained a greater understanding of the process of purchasing materials and services. Jackson returns this summer to the Procurement Department a seasoned veteran, picking up where he left off, while also becoming more familiar with Puridiom, SRR's new purchasing system.
"There are so many things I would like to do after I graduate, but I'm unsure of what exactly I want to do," Jackson said. "This internship has shown me that there is a lot of opportunity for me to be successful. SRR has taught me that I need to find a career that I am eager to learn more and more about every day. I should always be willing to further my education."
