Daniel W. ‘Web’ Watson
LANGLEY, S.C. – Mr. Daniel W. “Web” Watson, 90, of Langley, entered into rest on Wednesday, August 15th, 2012, at the home he built, with his wife of sixty-nine years, Mrs. Margaret S. Watson, holding his hand.
Born in Kentucky, he was a son of the late Sherman and Rebecca Watson. At the age of ten, following the death of his father, he went to work in the coal mines of Kentucky in order to provide for his family. A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of seventeen and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, he began his career in the construction industry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and making toys. He was a “master woodworker” and he and Margaret enjoyed traveling to craft shows. Web was a member of Langley United Methodist Church, was a fifty year member of the Horse-creek Masonic Lodge, was a Scottish Rite Mason, was a Shriner and was a member of the American Legion Post #153.
In addition to his wife and parents, family members include sons, Charles Watson, (Pat) Belvedere, Floyd T. Watson, (Candi) Norwood and Terry L. Watson, Clearwater; siblings, Effie Neal, Strunk, KY and Lois Larson, Waynesville, NC; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 18th, 2012, at 2 o’clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home, with Pastor John Williams and Pastor Julius Hadden officiating. Interment with veterans honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville.
Pallbearers will be family members.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Horsecreek Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post # 153.
