Normal summer weather will beam back through later this week, as temperatures rise.

“It’s been below normal this week,” Tony Petrolito, National Weather Service forecaster, said. “The last few days, it’s been cooler than normal. As we move toward the weekend, it will be more typical summer weather, isolated thunderstorms and hot.”

Compared to years prior, the weather Aiken is seeing is not so unusual.

“The normal is high 90s, low 70s,” said Jeff Linton, National Weather Service forecaster. “We have just been just a few degrees off.”

During this week last year, the average temperatures ranged from 81.4 to 87.5 degrees, and it rained two days, according to “The Old Farmer’s Alamanac.” The temperatures were based from Augusta Bush Field.

“We are just in a different pattern than last year,” Linton said. “We had a drier pattern last year and are in a wetter pattern this year.”

August is actually anticipated to have a lot of rain.

“August is more prone to have localized flooding problems from slow moving thunderstorms,” Linton said.

In Aiken, June holds the record in highest average precipitation, according to The Weather Channel website.

Today will be partly sunny with a high near 86, with tonight being mostly cloudy with a light northeast wind and a low around 68.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected for today and tonight with precipitation amounts reaching no more than one-tenth of an inch, unless a thunderstorm occurs.

Thursday is anticipated to be partly sunny again with a high near 87 degrees and a 30 percent change of showers and thunderstorms. The northeast wind should not exceed 3 to 5 miles per hour nor should the rainfall amount exceed one-tenth an inch, unless it thunderstorms.

Thursday night’s temperature will be around 62 and have a partly cloudy sky.

On Friday, the sky will be mostly sunny with a high near 87.

On Friday and Saturday night, the sky will partly cloud up with lows around 64.

Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny with highs near 86.

To finish off the weekend, Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 65.
