The Wagener Town Council will meet tonight in a special meeting to discuss the enforcement of a current ordinance regarding cleanup.

The meeting is open to the public, and will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Wagener Town Hall, 113 Railroad Ave.

Tina Salley, the clerk treasurer of the Town of Wagener, said tonight's meeting is to remind residents that the Wagener Police Department will begin to enforce an ordinance already in place, hoping to "improve the appearance of our town."

"We're asking for the citizens help; we want to get them aware that if there is a large mess on their property that the police officers will be giving them a fine to clean it up," Salley said. "We're just trying to make the community aware of what's going on."

Salley said driving into Wagener, seeing lots with abandoned vehicles and other items isn't uncommon.

"It's not that we want to fine anyone; it's really just going to be a warning, make sure they understand and give them a notice with a certain amount of time they have to get things cleaned up," Salley said. "We want them to take responsibility of their yard and take some pride in their property."
