Rep. Joe Wilson to hold annual jobs fair for veterans

U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson is inviting all veterans and their families to attend his annual Veterans Fair, where he brings various groups together to push for employment opportunities for veterans.

The South Carolina Republican will hold the first of two fairs on Tuesday at USC Aiken, 471 University Parkway. The event will is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wilson is inviting organizations to attend and confirmed guests include: Savannah River Remediation, Blue Cross Blue Shield, the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, South Carolina National Guard, United Parcel Service and Southern Wesleyan University.

The second fair is scheduled for the same time and will be April 7 at Brookland Baptist Church Health and Wellness Center, 1066 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia.

Businesses will include: Palmetto Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield, SMX Staffing, the IRS, the Department of Motor Vehicles, UPS and Southern Wesleyan University.

Wilson said he is a retiree from the Army Reserve and the South Carolina National Guard and has four sons currently serving in the military.

"After hearing from many veterans who are struggling to find a job or get assistance from federal agencies, I began holding these fairs in 2013 to help veterans in our community. I believe it is a top priority to protect and provide for those who have honorably served to defend America and our citizens at home," Wilson said.
