An Aiken man was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his car through a historic brick wall on Whiskey Road early Thursday, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Christopher Brian Clark, 32, of Clifton Street, was placed in the Aiken County detention center but had been released as of Friday afternoon.

Officers responded to a collision at Whiskey Road and Easy Street about 4:50 a.m. Thursday, where they found a blue Honda Fit that had crashed through a brick wall, according to an incident report. The driver, Clark, said he was not injured, according to the report.

The wall had a "large, gaping" hole on its corner, police said.

Clark told officers he had several drinks that night, and he was taken into custody after failing multiple field sobriety tests. He refused to provide a breath sample.
