A traffic stop by Aiken Public Safety on April 2 led to drug charges for the driver and passenger, and their 1-year-old-son was placed in the custody of a family friend.
After an officer ran the tag on a Chrysler at a Richland Avenue restaurant, dispatch said the tag belonged to a Hyundai.
The Chrysler was soon stopped on Richland Avenue, The driver was identified as Christopher Lewis, 31, and the passenger as Lisa Marie Williamson, 32, both of Graniteville.
Lewis told the officer that the car was given to him for work he had done to it, according to the incident report. A 1-year-old was in a car seat in the back seat of the car. Lewis said he and Williamsom were engaged, and the child was theirs, according to the report.
When asked for his drivers license, Lewis said he did not have one. The officer received consent for a K-9 search of the exterior of the vehicle. The dog gave a positive alert on the car, the report states.
The officer then conducted a search of the vehicle, in which he found a small, plastic bag of what was believed to be methamphetamine on the rear seat next to the child's seat. He also found a plastic container under the drivers' seat containing several controlled prescription drugs and methamphetamine. Lewis and Williamson denied the drugs were theirs.
The suspects were arrested, however, and at Williamson's request, the child was turned over to a family friend.
Lewis and Williamson were charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance. Lewis also was charged with no drivers license and operating an uninsured vehicle.
They were placed in the Aiken County detention center, where they remained Monday.
