An April 2 traffic stop on Powderhouse Road led to drug charges for the driver.
An Aiken Department of Public Safety officer pulled over a sedan that had disregarded a traffic light. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana, and the driver, Marcus Ryan Barber, 30, was behaving erratically, looking around and acting nervously, police said.
After exiting the vehicle, Barber told officers he had a "roach" in the car, but he did not give consent to a search of his person, police said. A vehicle search revealed a small bag containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, the police report states. There also were two burned cigarellos containing what officers believed to be marijuana, according to reports.
Barber was placed under arrest, at which point he was searched, according to the report. The arresting officer found a plastic baggy in Barber's pocket containing various pills, police said.
Barber was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance (alprazolam 2mg), possession of Schedule II controlled substance (acetaminophen/hydrocodone 325/10mg, possession of cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and disregarding a traffic-control device, according to reports.
He was taken to the Aiken County detention center, and had been released as of Monday.
