An Aiken woman and a juvenile were charged with shoplifting Monday after they tried to take cleaning supplies from a Whiskey Road store, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
Amber Marie McCalister, 37, of Whiskey Road, was charged with shoplifting and placed in the Aiken County detention center. She had been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
A juvenile boy also was charged with shoplifting and released to his father.
Officers responded at about 6:15 p.m. to the Wal-Mart on Whiskey Road, where McCalister and the juvenile boy had been taken to the loss-prevention office, according to an incident report.
A loss-prevention officer told police the boy was taking cleaning products from the shelves and giving them to McCalister, who then concealed them, according to the report. The boy also took matchbooks and placed them into his pockets, according to the report.
McCalister and the boy told police they took the cleaning supplies "because they were having an inspection at their house," the report states.
