A set of missing keys and phone led to threats and an assault in Warrenville on Sunday.

Aiken County Sheriff's deputies responded to Pleasure Island Road after receiving a call regarding a larceny, vandalism and assault. The victim said he had left a set of keys on a picnic table, and later discovered them missing.

He said that a man he knew as "J.R." was in the area, and the victim asked him about the keys. The subject "smiled and denied" having the keys but then handed them over, according to a sheriff's report.

The victim and subject parted ways, but he later realized his phone was missing. He accused the subject of having the phone. The subject said that "he was no thief" and punched the victim in the face, which knocked him from his chair to the ground, the report read. The subject fled but not before having a confrontation with the resident of the Pleasure Island Road home. The homeowner noticed that the back door was damaged, and he blamed the subject. He asked the subject to leave, and he threatened to slit the homeowner's throat for "putting him out of the home."

The incident is still under investigation.
