The Aiken County Public School District could have a new superintendent on June 30, according to a timeline approved by the School Board at a special called meeting Tuesday.
The Board also approved, for the first time, a reception to introduce the finalists to the public the day before being interviewed.
The Board approved the superintendent search committee, which will be made up of members appointed by the Board; district administrators, including representatives from the elementary, middle and high school levels and special education; and the area advisory councils.
Members of the search committee should receive notification of their appointments in the next few days. Committee members will receive their charge at the regular School Board meeting at 6 p.m. May 12.
The rest of the timeline is as follows:
- From May 15 to June 10, a meeting in each of the district's five areas will be scheduled for the public to provide input in the selection process.
- On June 15, Board members will submit possible questions to ask the finalists at their interviews.
- On June 16, the Board will review, discuss, finalize and approve the list of questions to be asked of each of the finalists during their interviews at a special called meeting at 6 p.m. Each finalist will be asked the same questions.
- Also, on June 16, the Board will receive a list of at least five but not more than 10 top candidates from the search committee, based on the committee members' initial evaluations, from the applicant pool for the Board members to review and evaluate.
- On June 26, the Board will hold a reception to introduce the top three, or possibly more, finalists to the public.
- On June 27, the Board will interview the finalists.
- On June 30, the Board will announce the new superintendent at a special called meeting.
The Board also approved a budget of $14,500 for the superintendent search. The budget includes money that already has been spent in the search process and for the reception to introduce the finalists to the public.
