The Aiken County Board of Education will introduce the Superintendent Search Committee and give the members their charge at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the District office at 1000 Brookhaven Drive.
The Board approved a timeline for the superintendent search and selection process at a special called meeting May 5 that could have a new superintendent in place by June 30. The process will include public input meetings in each of the District's five areas, selection by the search committee of no fewer than five and no more than 10 top candidates from the application pool, Board selection of three or more finalists and a reception to introduce the finalists to the public.
Dr. Beth Everitt, the current superintendent, announced earlier this year that she will retire at the end of July.
The Board also will hear the tentative budget for 2015-16. The final budget will be presented June 23.
To date, the Board has also conducted three budget workshop meetings as part of its preparation of the 2015-16 budget. At those and regular meetings, the Board approved several items to add to the budget, including a one percent cost of living raise for all District employees; a full-time assistant principal at all elementary and middle schools, regardless of size; and creation of a science, technology, engineering and math program at Jackson Middle School and a science, technology, engineering, arts and math program at New Ellenton Middle School.
In other business, the Board will:
- recognize middle school athletics awards
- hear the final construction status reports for the North Augusta High School building project
- hear a salary study report.
During executive session, the Board will discuss an administrative appointment, in addition to contractual and legal issues.
