The Aiken Planning Commission will meet Tuesday to recommend whether to change a City zoning ordinance allowing a RV camp inside City limits.

The 6 p.m. meeting is open to the public and will be held in the Municipal Building's Council Chambers, 214 Park Ave.

Rick Cram, owner of Highfields Event Center, approached City officials earlier this year with ideas to include a RV site on his property. In February, the Commission discussed the possible development to the property, and the consensus from that meeting was that the use of proposed RV site should be clearly defined, a time limit should be set on how long individuals can stay and emergency vehicle access and a fire hydrant should be required.

The Commission also will decide whether to recommend a request to provide City water and sewer to a future fast food restaurant on the east side of Columbia Highway, located near the I-20 eastbound ramp.

According to the agenda, applicants Bret Rodgers, of Aiken Columbia N. LLC and owner Butch Roberson, of Treo Holdings LLC, are requesting the City services for a proposed Bojangles restaurant.

In addition, the Commission also will vote whether to recommend annexation and approval of the concept plan for a proposed retail shop and restaurant to be located at the former TD Bank property on Whiskey Road.

In other business, the Commission will discuss proposed changes to the building height in downtown Aiken. That discussion will be held in a 5 p.m. public work session held in room 204. The current building height in Aiken is 50 feet and officials are encouraging the height limit be increased to 65 feet or 70 feet.
