The 5th Annual Aiken-Augusta Wounded Warrior Charity Golf Classic will be held May 18 on the Plantation and Wisteria courses at the Woodside Plantation Country Club.
Last year's event raised more than $35,000 in support of the Wounded Warriors in the CSRA through 260 golfers and sponsors. The goal this year is $40,000, according to a press release.
Over the past four years, the all-volunteer, local Aiken nonprofit organization has generated more than $120,000 from sponsor, player and volunteer support of the annual golf event. All of the proceeds stay right in the CSRA to support local Wounded Warriors and veterans in need of support. Among last year's benefits was the establishment of the USC Aiken Bridge the Gap scholarship program for veterans. Wounded Warriors funded the program with $30,000 for its first year and gave out the first four scholarships.
Although there are 230 players signed up, there are still a few slots available and additional sponsors are needed.
