NC man accused of exposing himself in SC police lobby

YORK, S.C. (AP) — A Sharon man has been arrested in a South Carolina police station after officers say he exposed himself in the lobby.

The Rock Hill Herald reports a 57-year-old man was caught sleeping in the York police station Thursday night. The officer on duty says the man had his belt undone and pants unbuttoned, exposing his genitals.

An arrest report says officers woke the man up and asked why he was exposing himself in a public place. The man says he was sleepy and trying to get comfortable.

The man was arrested and charged with public disorderly conduct. It is unclear if he has a lawyer.

Man killed when car explodes, catches fire with him inside

IVA, S.C. (AP) — The coroner in Anderson County says a man is dead after an explosion and fire involving a car he was sitting in.

Multiple media outlets report emergency crews were called just south of Iva early Sunday morning. According to investigators, a woman said she was awakened by an explosion, but didn't immediately get up. When she heard a second blast, she went outside and heard a car horn blowing.

Coroner Greg Shore said the woman walked toward the noise and found her son's car on fire with him inside. The woman said she heard the man screaming but couldn't save him.

Shore identified the man as 39-year-old Scottie K. Smith.

The Iva Fire Department is trying to determine the cause of the explosion and fire.

SC authorities chase woman in stolen dump truck

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) — A Hilton Head Island tree trimmer says he was surprised when a woman jumped in his dump truck and took off.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head Island reports that Bruce Steed was finishing up a job on Friday when one of his employees told him the woman was driving off with the vehicle.

Steed says he told someone to call 911 and followed the truck into Bluffton. Soon, law officers joined the chase.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office says multiple patrol cars were involved in the chase.

The Beaufort County Detention Center website says that 30-year-old Candice Baird was charged with grand larceny of a motor vehicle and failure to stop for law enforcement, among other charges. She was still being held Saturday afternoon. The jail says it couldn't say whether she had an attorney.
