WINDSOR — The members of the Hutchinson Farms polo team gave their mothers and grandmothers a special treat by winning the Wagener Polo Club's Aiken Saddlery 6-Goal Cup at Fox Nation on May 10, which was Mother's Day.

Hutchinson Farms defeated Jemeni Farm 9-7 in the finals.

Possibly the proudest mother was Rose Sease. Her 13-year-old son, Mason, scored three goals and earned the Most Valuable Player award in the first tournament of his career.

The Sease family lives Mount Pleasant, but travels to Aiken for polo competition. Mason's father, Jody, graduated from Clemson in 1986 and was an offensive lineman on the school's football team.

Mason has been involved for the past six years in Karen Reese's Pee Wee Polo program at Hilltop Farm on Hatchaway Bridge Road in Aiken.

The captain of the Hutchinson Farms team was Windsor resident Horacio Onetto, who has a 4-goal rating.

The other two members of the Hutchinson squad, Keegan Walsh and Charlie Hutchinson V, are in their 20s. Over nearly a decade of competition in the Aiken area, Walsh has evolved into an energetic 2-goal player. His mother, Deb Thayer, had been injured earlier in the day by a cranky broodmare, but the Hutchinson Farms win helped make her feel better.

Charlie Hutchinson's paternal grandparents were visiting from Canaan, New Hampshire.

The Jimeni Farm team didn't give Hutchinson Farms any breaks. Jimeni tied the game at 7 with Will Tankard's safety conversion in the last period of play. Walsh and Mason Sease then each scored a goal to give Hutchinson Farms the victory.

The Wagener Polo Club's spring season of tournament and scrimmage polo continues through early June.
