Recently designated as an arts magnet school, the application process for East Aiken School of the Arts now requires no special permission or hardship for elementary students to attend, only the desire for an arts integrated education including a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) curriculum.

The policy change for enrollment makes the school a partial-magnet with an attendance zone plus a limited number of spots for students who apply outside of the designated attendance zone.

Students will be accepted as space allows on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline for submitting transfer requests for East Aiken is Friday.

Parents and guardians considering East Aiken School of the Arts for their student can call 641-2450 and schedule a tour of the school.

To apply, download the application form from the District's homepage at www.acps.schoolfusion.net. The form is located under the Parent tab, Parent Information Index, S-School Choice, Transfer Form.

"Through arts integration students are engaged in a creative process as well as collaboration among teachers and students," said Lisa Fallaw, the school's principal. "That helps students access the curriculum in all academic areas.

"In today's world, we need workers who think outside of the box. Here, we believe that we can best prepare students by teaching them to be creative, cooperate with others and solve problems differently."
