Aiken County is set to receive about $1.6 million out of a 2015-16 budget amendment the South Carolina Senate passed last week.
The amendment is part of the Senate-approved $7 billion 2015-16 budget that includes sending $4 million to counties affected by the February 2014 ice storm. The $4 million state match will be allocated to the 22 local governments for ice storm expenses.
Aiken County is set to gain about $1.6 million; the City of Aiken should gain about $100,000; and North Augusta is set to gain roughly $38,000.
The February 2014 ice storm, also known as Winter Storm Pax, which took down trees and cut power to thousands of homes, cost Aiken County roughly $33.2 million.
Aiken County has received federal reimbursement of about $26 million out of the expected $27 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, according to Aiken County Administrator Clay Killian. The House will vote on the budget before it goes to South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley's desk for a final signature.
