An Aiken man "learned his lesson" after his suicide joke led to the police being called Tuesday morning.
Aiken Department of Public Safety officers responded to Fairway Ridge at 4:10 a.m. when a woman found her boyfriend with a belt around his neck, police said.
The man told officers he placed the belt around his neck as a joke when he heard his girlfriend coming in his apartment, according to reports.
He added he did not want to harm himself and just wanted to anger his girlfriend, police said.
Officers did not observe any physical marks on the man, according to reports.
The man was transported to Aiken Regional Medical Centers to be evaluated as a precaution, police said.
He stated he "had learned his lesson about joking around with serious issues," according to reports.
