One person is dead after an early morning wreck in Beech Island Monday.

Paul D. Wright, 37, of Beech Island was pronounced dead at Georgia Regents University after he was ejected from his vehicle in single-vehicle crash, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. A passenger of his vehicle, Holly Worley of Graniteville, was also ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Georgia Regents University's Shock Trauma, Carlton added.

The crash happened Monday at 5:34 a.m. when a 1996 Honda rolled over while traveling south on Storm Branch Road at Pine Log Road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones.

Jones said the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit a ditch.

Neither the passenger or the driver were wearing seat belts, Jones said.

The passenger told investigators that Wright was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash.

Highway Patrol is leading the investigation, and toxicology is pending.
