Wounded Berkeley County deputy back in hospital

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) — Berkeley County officials say a sheriff's deputy wounded last month at a gas station in Moncks Corner is back in the hospital.

County spokesman Michael Mule told local media outlets that 54-year-old Lt. Will Rogers has been returned to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston from a rehabilitation center.

Rogers had been transferred to the hospital to the rehabilitation center earlier this month.

Mule would not say why Rogers was returned to the hospital.

Rogers was shot three times in the head and shoulder May 14 while he was talking with a customer.

The man investigators think shot Rogers, 32-year-old Jerome Thomas Caldwell of Mount Pleasant, was shot to death May 21 after a 10-hour standoff in Charleston.

Heat advisory again Tuesday for eastern South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — It's going to be dangerously hot again in eastern South Carolina.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for 16 counties along the South Carolina coast. Cities covered by the advisory include Charleston, North Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Summerville, Hilton Head Island, Florence, Goose Creek and Myrtle Beach.

The advisory warning of dangerous heat is in effect from midday until early evening Tuesday.

Forecasters say heat index readings are expected to reach 107 degrees.

Greenville deputy placed on leave during wreck investigation

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says a deputy has been placed on administrative duty while officials investigate a wreck that killed a moped driver last weekend.

The sheriff's office told local media Monday that 32-year-old Harold Robinson has been placed on leave during the investigation of a wreck in which 47-year-old Alan Craig Williams of Travelers Rest was killed.

Officials said Williams was riding a moped Saturday when he was struck from behind by Robinson's car. Coroner Parks Evans said Williams died about 45 minutes after later.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Tony Keller said Williams was not wearing a helmet.
