Aiken Department of Public Safety officers are seeing an increase in fraudulent purchases made using cloned credit cards at stores throughout Aiken.

According to a press release, a cloned credit card has the card number and cardholder information stored on it from a compromised credit card.

Investigators are working to determine where the card information may have been compromised, said Public Affairs Officer Jeremy Hembree.

Hembree added the credit card can still be in the cardholder's possession, but still be compromised.

Officers encourage community members to monitor their bank account activity and to report any fraudulent purchases to Public Safety at 803-642-7620 or the Aiken County Sheriff's Office at 803-648-6811.
