Police: Man charged with attempted murder of girlfriend

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — An Orangeburg man has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he used a stun gun on his girlfriend and then fired a handgun at her.

The Times & Democrat reports 20-year-old Quinnis A. Gibbs was arrested and charged Monday, hours after police say Gibbs fired a stun gun in Tyquasha Hart's face and then shot at her with a handgun.

A police report says the couple had been arguing the night before and that the argument escalated the next morning.

Officials say prior to Gibbs' bond setting, Hart defended him, pleading with the judge to be lenient with her boyfriend. Police say Hart was not injured or struck during the incident.

Gibbs' bond has been set at $75,000. It was not immediately known if Gibbs has hired an attorney.

Lugoff woman charged in theft of nearly $117K from employer

LUGOFF, S.C. (AP) — A Lugoff woman who worked for a Kershaw County doctor's practice has been arrested after authorities say she embezzled more than $116K from her employer between 2013 and 2014.

The State of Columbia reports 47-year-old Marsha Burr turned herself in to authorities Thursday.

Officials started an investigation at the SC ENT Allergy and Sleep Medicine Center in May after someone examining the practice's accounting records found improprieties. According to the complaint, Burr, who was an accountant, wrote checks to herself and another company she worked for totaling $116,609.

Burr has been charged with breach of trust and forgery. She was booked and released from the Kershaw County Detention Center after posting bond.

It is unclear if she has a lawyer.

Police investigate possible drowning after man found in pool

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Rock Hill Police are investigating a possible drowning after a 21-year-old man was found at the bottom of a swimming pool.

The Rock Hill Herald reports the man's mother told police she left her home on Wednesday morning and found her son at the bottom of the backyard pool when she returned that afternoon.

Police have not released the name of either the man or his mother.

Paramedics performed CPR on the victim but were unable to revive him.

Police spokesman Mark Bollinger says the incident remains under investigation.

The York County Coroner could not be reached for immediate comment.
