Aiken Department of Public Safety officers responded Tuesday morning to a complaint of two men having thrown a glass bottle into the road at the intersection of Richland Avenue and Morgan Street.
The two suspects were identified as Lee Wells, 18, of Augusta, and Richard Jackson, 24.
Jackson told officers that the two were walking to Wal-Mart to "meet with his mother," according to an incident report. Wells initially said that he had kicked a bottle into the curb, but after being asked several times, conceded to throwing the bottle into the road, according to the report.
Wells was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge. During a search, officers found three credit cards that did not belong to Wells, according to police. Wells said he "found the cards on the ground in Augusta," according to the report. None of the cards had been reported stolen.
Dispatch advised officers that Jackson had active bench warrants from Fairfax. Jackson consented to a search, according to the report, and officers found a bottle of hyrocodone pills with the name Betty Turner on the label. Jackson told police that he had picked up the pills for his mother.
Fairfax police said they would extradite Jackson, so he was arrested. Police returned the pills to Turner at Wal-Mart.
Both men were taken to the Aiken County detention center, where Wells remained Wednesday.
